FAQ

How do I choose a horse trailer?

If you own a normal SUV car then a bumper pull trailer is the way to go. However if you own a truck you have more options as you can also tow a Gooseneck horse trailer. Step one is to make sure your towing vehicle is strong enough, and has electric brakes installed. Once that has been established then you base you decision on depending on how many horses you need to tow, do you need living quarters? And what is your budget? Most 2 horse bumper pull trailers with standard features weight about 3000-3500lbs for your reference. Bumper pull trailers tend to be lighter than goosenecks.

How big of a trailer do I need for my horse?

HORSE-TRAILER-SIZE

Should horses be tied in trailers?

It is recommended to tie your horse in the trailer for safety reasons as this prevents this horse from turning around. However please make sure you do not tie your horse too tight as it still needs to be comfortable.

Safest Horse Trailer

The safest horse trailer is going to be the one that is hauled by a strong vehicle (below 80% off the towing capacity) and that has been leveled and is hooked up properly with electric brakes etc. And remember 80% of accidents are due to driver error, so drive nice and safe with long braking distances. If you're looking for a specific brand that focuses mainly on safety then Equi Spirit trailers is the trailer manufacturer for you.

Aluminum trailers vs steel trailers

Aluminum horse trailers have become more popular in the last decade. Aluminum construction trailers tend to be more corrosion resistant than steel horse trailers. Steel trailers are also heavier than aluminum trailers. However many haulers prefer a steel trailer over an aluminum trailer as they are more rugged. Steel trailers are also slightly cheaper than aluminum trailers. In the end it all comes down to preference - do you need a lightweight trailer that will last longer without much maintenance (and do you have the budget for it), or do you want a solid trailer that hauls steadily on rough terrain.
